In a hard economy, more men are looking at jobs once considered the province of women, including nursing, according to a report from ABC news.

"A job is a job, I don't care about, female, male - it doesn't matter, it's still work," Larry Brush told the reporter.

Brush, 43, was laid off from a job in finance two months ago, his third layoff in eight years, a common enough occurrence in a down economy, according to the article. Instead of returning to finance, his wife suggested he reinvent himself and pursue a nursing career.

"And I was like, you know what, I love it, I'm into it, I'll do it," Brush said.

The report notes that cuts in the recession have hit men and women disproportionately, with 78 percent of the jobs lost belonging to men since the hardest-hit industries - manufacturing, construction and finance - are male-dominated fields.

Despite some friendly ribbing from his friends, Brush looks forward to nursing as a steady job in a career that is in high demand. If you are ready to reinvent yourself, the time may be perfect to go to nursing school.
